About Me:
Dr. Ricardo Telles de Freitas is a distinguished orthopaedic surgeon and the coordinator of the Knee Unit at Hospital CUF Descobertas in Lisbon. He specialises in complex disorders of the knee and ankle, performing arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery, and is deeply involved in sports-related trauma and dance-related injuries.
Graduating in medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, he completed his residency in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Hospital de Santa Maria (1998–2004) and undertook fellowships in Barcelona under Prof. Ramon Cugat in 2003. Since 2005, he has been a core member of the Orthopaedics Centre at Hospital CUF Descobertas, and between 2005 and 2010, he also served as consultant for the National Centre of Sports Medicine (IDP) and for the National Ballet Company (2008–2011).
An active faculty member, he regularly contributes to high-level surgical education. His roles include faculty positions in courses such as knee arthroscopy (CUF Descobertas, biannual), knee arthroplasty (DePuy/CUF, annual), cadaver knee arthroscopy (annual), and ankle arthroscopy (national and international).
Dr. Telles de Freitas is also academically productive, having co-authored chapters on osteochondral ankle injuries in the book Injuries and Health Problems in Football. He has contributed to scientific literature with research on topics including the biomechanical and surgical treatment of knee and tibia-related conditions.
