About Me:
He completed his residency in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Hospital de Santa Maria, during which he was exposed to highly specialised and complex pathology in the field of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. From very early in his training, he had the opportunity to follow the clinical activity of the Knee Unit of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Centre (COT) at Hospital CUF Descobertas (HCD), an experience that motivated him to dedicate himself to knee surgery.
Thus, since 2016, in addition to regularly working with the COT Knee Unit, he focused his training on the field of knee surgery, attending several theoretical and practical courses with that goal. Between April and June 2021, he completed a fellowship at the COT Knee Unit under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo Varatojo, and was subsequently invited to join the Unit in 2022.
Dr. João Ribeiras Cabral is academically active, with multiple contributions to scientific literature. He co-authored chapters in medical texts—such as on metaphyseal vs. diaphyseal support—and published studies in peer-reviewed journals, including “Dome‑Shaped Osteotomy for Revision of Failed Closing‑Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy” . He has also presented extensively at medical conferences, with 33 oral presentations and numerous posters at both national and international meetings
His areas of clinical expertise include knee pathology, open and arthroscopic knee surgery, sports-related trauma, knee prostheses, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and meniscal repair
