Dr. Mário Vale

Dr. Mário Vale is a distinguished Orthopaedic and Traumatology Specialist at the Knee, Ankle & Sports Traumatology Unit of the Centre of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Hospital CUF Descobertas in Lisbon.

He earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Lisbon and completed his internship and specialist training in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Hospital de Santa Maria, subsequently joining the CUF Descobertas team in 2012  . Additionally, he undertook prestigious fellowships, including at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford (UK) and under the accreditation of ESSKA (European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy).

His clinical expertise spans knee and sports-related injuries, ligament and meniscus lesions, meniscal transplants, knee osteoarthritis, and fracture treatment. He is also skilled in arthroscopic and joint-preserving procedures, ligament repair, osteotomy, cartilage lesion management, and advanced treatments like PRP and hyaluronic acid injections.

An enthusiastic educator, Dr. Vale was appointed early on as the team’s driving force in Traumatology training—notably focusing on fracture care as a core element of orthopaedic practice. He is a regular faculty member in AO Trauma courses—both nationally and internationally—further underscoring his commitment to pioneering excellence
